SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)
and web-positioning techniques.
The Basic Principles.
How
much optimising is needed?.
by Ammon Johns
There are generally two extremes to optimising web pages:
Many sites do not optimise at all, and the rest often optimise
far too much for what is needed.
The goal of optimising is to have your pages rank just a
little higher than your competitors. You only have to be closer
to the optimal page for each algorithm than they are. To do
more is to risk spam-banning for no good purpose.
Only if you are in quite competitive fields should you ever
need to make seperate doorways for each search engine. For
all else, one or two generic optimising exercises should be
sufficient to grab a good slot in the results.
There is no need to use a sledgehammer to swat a fly and
doing so can be very damaging to your own interests.
