Question:
Can multiple sub-domains receive individual listings at the Open Directory Project? I read your advice about using sub-domains rather than getting multiple domain registrations to help build a brand, but wondered if an how this would affect my web directory listings?
Answer:
That would depend on two factors really - the size and nature of other sites in the category, and the size and depth of information in each of your sub-domains.
The idea that the ODP have to work to is to not allow any one company to gain an unfair advantage. The editors will not allow a couple of pages to be treated the same as a deep and thorough website.
If each of your sub-domains can stand alone as a full website in the category then that's how they should be listed. Besides, as the directory grows you'll almost certainly find that each sub-domain is in a different category somewhere (one for NASCAR, another for Indy, etc).
With a human edited directory the 'absolutes' are not so absolute - their strength is human judgement. If you make sure that fair, independant, human judgement sees your sub-domains as deserving separate listings then that's what will happen.
